About Me
Hi! My name is Sydney and I love music. On my winter break from my junior year of college, I got bored and decided to embark on my long-time fantasy of writing a music blog. I am by no means a music expert, but I am definitely a music nerd. In my free time, I read several music blogs, make playlists for the workout class that I teach, and spend a jaw-dropping amount of time watching and reading content on Genius. If it’s not already clear, music is the lifeblood behind everything that I do; if nothing else, I want to write this blog for my own personal enjoyment (but if it makes other people smile that would be dope too!).
I’ve never been a big talker, so music has always served as my way of sharing and communicating with others. I love the feeling of introducing people to new music and watching their eyes light up when they’ve found their newest jam.
What to expect
PLAYLISTS: I have tried really hard to distill my music taste down into a sentence or two, but honestly it’s pretty impossible. You can expect to see coverage of a wide range of artists and musical genres. To give you an idea, my favorite artists of all time are Bon Iver, Arcade Fire, Kanye West, Beyoncé, Frank Ocean, LCD Soundsystem, and Michael Jackson. Like most people, my music taste varies depending on my mood or the activity that I am doing. For that reason, I created the “Playlists” section of the blog, which will feature playlists for anything from working out to studying for exams.
REVIEWS: In terms of reviews, my goal is to avoid writing a mini-novel about any particular song or album. We are all busy people and I want to make this blog as digestible and accessible as possible. I’ll highlight my favorite/least favorite songs, give a quick summary blurb, and then give a rating.
MUSINGS: This serves as my “everything that is not a review or playlist” section of the blog. I’ll delve into any random music topic that interests me i.e. ranking Kanye’s discography, slept-on artists, best rap verses of the decade, songs that would be cool to mash up. Again, I’ll keep it brief (and hopefully interesting) here.
Disclaimer: Taylor Swift, Nickelback, heavy metal, and country music will NOT be featured in this blog.
Why “Headphones and Frocks”?
When prepping for job interviews with my dad, I was blanking on how to describe myself in three words or less. Without thinking, my dad chimed in and answered “headphones and frocks”. Pretty accurate. Despite the weather or my mood, I can more often than not be spotted in a frock, marching across campus with my headphones in bopping to anything and everything.
